Pet Rehoming Resources
1. Make sure your pet is fixed (spayed/neutered).
Altered pets are chosen much faster by adopters. Our low-cost clinic is booked until November/December, but if you can get them fixed sooner through another clinic or vet, it will help tremendously.
2. Make sure your pet is vaccinated.
Adopters want to know they are bringing home a healthy pet. We host vaccine clinics the first weekend of every month, and places like Tractor Supply and PetSmart also hold low-cost vaccine clinics regularly.
3. Create a rehome profile.
Go to Rehome by Adopt-a-Pet (https://rehome.adoptapet.com/). It’s the same site we use for many of our dogs. Our organization has a code that makes posting nearly free. They charge a small fee to keep the site safe and prevent scams.
4. Post on local rehoming pages on Facebook.
Use the rehoming fee to cover the costs of spay/neuter & vaccines to ensure going to a good home.
5. Build the best profile possible.
Your pet will be in competition with many others. The pets that get adopted first are the ones with:
- Clear, eye-catching photos (on the couch, snuggling, on walks, in a kennel, etc.)
- A profile picture that shows the face/eyes
- A detailed description highlighting their personality, quirks, and what kind of home would be best
- Most important details to include: potty trained? Crate trained? Dog friendly? Cat friendly? Kid friendly?
Once your pet’s profile is live, share it everywhere — social media, neighborhood groups, friends, family. Personal sharing is often what makes the difference in getting them adopted.I know this isn’t easy to hear, and I truly wish I could help more directly. But by doing this, you’re giving your pet the same chance we give to every dog and cat that comes through our doors — and you’re keeping them safe from the risks they’d face at an overcrowded shelter.
