This week’s spotlight companion animal is Charmin! Charmin is a five-month-year-old
Siamese kitten. He has a playful and sweet personality. He is in great need of your help.
Charmin has several medical abnormalities that have made it hard for him to stay
healthy. When we received him, he showed signs of severe constipation. Baytree
Animal Hospital consulted with Capital Veterinary Specialists in Tallahassee, Florida,
and found that Charmin’s constipation was a result of an idiopathic megacolon.
According to the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, an idiopathic megacolon is
when the colon gradually loses function and becomes enlarged.
We tried treating his condition medically, but unfortunately he did not respond to
treatment. It was recommended that his best chance at a normal, healthy life was to
surgically remove a large portion of his colon. Charmin had a sub-total colectomy on
Friday, March 5 th at Capital Veterinary Specialists. He is slowly but surely recovering
day by day. However, Charmin still needs your help. The total cost of his surgery was
$1,800. Any donation to cover the costs of his care is greatly appreciated. Please visit
