Update: A few weeks ago our spotlight companion animal was Birdie! Birdie is a
one-year-old calico cat. She is gentle, kind, and eager to meet her furrever family! Birdie
also has a microchip. If she ever becomes lost, she will have a better chance of being
reunited with her potential family.
When we received Birdie, she was short of breath and panting. The Baytree
Animal Hospital conducted an x-ray and found that she had a diaphragmatic hernia.
According to the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, a diaphragmatic hernia is a
hole in the diaphragm that allows the abdominal organs/intestines to enter the chest.
Birdie has undergone surgery to repair the hernia at the Capital Veterinary
Specialists in Tallahassee, Florida. She had an exceptional recovery and is now a
healthy cat. We are still raising funds to cover the costs of her surgery! The total costs
are $1,800. Any donation or help to cover the cost of her care is greatly appreciated.
Please click here to visit our Donation page to help us reach our goal.
She is now ready for adoption! If you would like to adopt Birdie, please visit our Adoptables page. On this page, you can fill out the application and once it
can be reviewed, we will contact you to schedule an appointment to meet her and pay
the adoption fee. Appointments can be reserved during office hours Mon.-Fri. 9 am to 2
pm by phone, email, or private messaging the Humane Society’s Facebook page.
