Lost or Found

If you have lost a pet:

  • Contact the Lowndes County Animal Shelter at (229) 671-2760.
  • Contact the Humane Society at (229) 247-3266 and leave at message at extension 29. Please know that the Humane Society does not pick up animals, and does not keep animals at its location.
  • Contact the Valdosta Daily Times. You can run an ad for three days, free.
  • Post flyers around your neighborhood and offer a reward (even a small amount will often encourage people to look).
  • Call the local veterinary offices to inquire if anyone has reported your pet, and to leave information on the missing pet.

If you have found a pet with no ID:

  • Contact the Lowndes County Animal Shelter at (229) 671-2760. We encourage you to take the pet to the shelter because it is one of the first places owners will call or look for their lost pet.
  • Contact the Humane Society at (229) 247-3266 and leave a message at extension 29. We do not take in found pets at our office, but we keep a log of all lost and found animals.
  • Contact the Valdosta Daily Times. You can run an ad for three days, free.
  • Post flyers around your neighborhood.
  • Call the local veterinary offices and leave information on the found pet.

If the animal appears to have been abandoned or abused, please report it to the Lowndes Co. Animal Shelter. For legal reasons, we highly recommend that you turn in any found pet to the Animal Shelter. If you are interested in keeping the animal, you can place a "finder's fee" on the animal at the shelter and, after adequate time has been allowed for the animal to be claimed by its original owners, you may adopt the animal. Please call the Shelter for more information about this process.
