| At only 12 years of age Lauren Thornton makes it part of her daily routine to help “speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.” Lauren Thornton has collected over $107.00 from her friends and neighbors in Hahira to help the animals in her community and has donated the funds to the Valdosta/Lowndes County Humane Society. Lauren reports she had been reading the recent issues in the newspaper regarding homeless animals in the area and just really wanted to help. Lauren stated can’t stand to think of any animal not having a home. Lauren has also decorated an empty five gallon water container and has challenged the community of Hahira and fellow students and teachers at Hahira Middle School through the “Pennies for Puppies” event to fill up the container.
